  1. When I was a kid we didn’t swim naked at school be it was coed and it was at the public pool. But we did swim nude at the YMCA which is where everyone went for swim lessons. 30 to 50 boys in the pool all at once in small classes of 5 to 10. Not one swim suit in sight including the instructors. We also skinny dipped on camp outs with the Boy Scouts and just swimming with our friends. Swim suits were not allowed at the YMCA for 100 years. That all ended in the 80’s with the equal rights nonsense.

    • Wish I could have here.

      • In a lot of ways it was a fun time. After the Saturday night church dances my buddies and I would go down to the river (Columbia) and go skinny dipping at midnight. Way fun.

  3. I commented on it. A little history.

  4. Thanks so much for posting this Michael. I’ve posted it to some of my MeWe groups as well.

I grew up in the era where naked swimming lessons was mandatory. Neither of the high schools in my home town had a pool, but we all had to learn how to swim as “gym class” at nearby venues. The YMCA was too far away to walk to so we went to the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men’s club, which did not allow females in the pool but they could watch us from the bleachers.
I grew up in a nudist family so swimming naked was the norm for everyone, including swimming in the creek with my fellow baby boomer cousins who were sent every summer to be slaves to our grandparent’s cows after a busy day in the hay fields. My grandparents swam naked with us.

  5. This kind of activity needs to be brought back in a big way. Too many men have hang ups about their own bodies due to the bombardment of media and the changing of social norms. Many countries around the world don’t have a problem with male nudity but the US has a warped sense of separating nudity and sex. Wish we could go back to simpler times.
