If you’re thinking about attending your first Utah Male Naturist event, chances are the biggest thing holding you back isn’t logistics, it’s fear. Fear of being seen. Fear of not fitting in. Fear of doing something “wrong.” And, very commonly, fear of getting an erection.
Let’s start by saying this plainly: feeling nervous before your first event is completely normal. Almost every man who has ever attended his first naturist gathering has felt the same way. Naturism asks us to drop more than our clothes; it asks us to drop layers of social conditioning, shame, and comparison that most of us have carried for decades.
Many first-timers worry about body judgment. Too old, too young, too thin, too heavy, too hairy, not hairy enough. The list goes on. What surprises most newcomers is how quickly that fear fades once they arrive. In a naturist setting, bodies stop being “on display” and start being just bodies. You realize very quickly that there is no single “naturist body.” There is only humanity, in all its variety.
The Fear of Erections (Let’s Talk About It)
This is the question almost everyone thinks about, but few ask out loud: What if I get an erection?
Here’s the reality: erections at naturist events are rare.
Why? Because erections are largely psychological. They’re tied to novelty, fantasy, and sexualized environments. Naturist events are intentionally not sexual spaces. There’s no flirting (okay, maybe a little), no cruising (okay, maybe a little), no sexual energy (okay, maybe a little). Instead, the atmosphere is relaxed, social, and grounded, more like a locker room or a sauna than anything erotic.
On top of that, anxiety is a powerful erection killer. When you’re focused on introductions, conversations, where to put your towel, or whether you remembered to bring sandals, your brain simply isn’t in “arousal mode.” For most men, the body follows the tone of the environment, which is calm, respectful, and nonsexual.
And if a brief, involuntary reaction ever does happen? It’s handled with quiet maturity. No staring. No shaming. No drama. Bodies are bodies, and experienced naturists understand that biology doesn’t always ask permission. Besides, we are all men. We notice and appreciate erections. They are part of life.
Fear Fades Quickly
One of the most common things we hear after a first event is, “I was nervous for weeks, and then within 10 minutes I forgot I was naked.” That’s because naturism isn’t about nudity. It’s about normalizing it. Once nudity stops being the focus, connection takes its place.
Men talk. They laugh. They swim. They sit in the hot tub. They exist. And suddenly the thing that felt terrifying becomes oddly freeing.
You’re Not Expected to Be Perfect
There is no test. No expectation. No “right way” to be naked. You’re allowed to take your time. You’re allowed to feel awkward. You’re allowed to sit on your towel and observe until you’re comfortable. Every regular member was once exactly where you are now.
What waits on the other side of that initial fear is something many men don’t realize they’re missing: comfort in their own skin. A sense of belonging without performance. A space where masculinity isn’t measured, compared, or judged.
If you’re feeling nervous, that doesn’t mean naturism isn’t for you. It usually means you’re right at the edge of growth.
We’ll be here when you’re ready.

ALL erections should be celebrated! Maybe with applause!!! An erection is the most masculine thing we can do. Max
