LAND O’ LAKES — Pasco County’s nudists are going national this week with a reality television show titled “Buying Naked,” which follows the exploits of real estate agent Jackie Youngblood, who specializes in selling homes in clothing-optional communities.
The show debued on Nov. 20 on TLC, and viewers will see two back-to-back half-hour episodes as Youngblood helps couples find their dream homes and offers safety tips for avoiding the household hazards inherent with naked living. See a trailer here.
Some clever camera work keeps the show from becoming too revealing, said Joey Skladany, a publicist for TLC.
“No blurring at all,” he said. “Just great camera angles and (strategically placed) objects around the house.”
A preview on the TLC.com website shows nudists riding a golf cart, using a leaf blower and cooking on an outdoor grill, among other activities.
Pasco County has long been known as a nudist destination, with about a dozen clothing-optional communities such as Caliente, Lake Como and Paradise Lakes. Last year, Pasco played host to the 81st American Association of Nude Recreation Convention.
Youngblood said she began to focus on the niche market of nudist home buyers right after she earned her real estate license in 2004, essentially because she saw there was money to be made.
“It’s a big market,” Youngblood said. “We have a lot of nudists. They are great people and so easy to work with and they have nothing to hide.”
Producers of “Buying Naked” discovered Youngblood through a newspaper article about a year ago and approached her with their reality-show proposal.
Never the shy type, Youngblood had no qualms about going on camera with her naked clientele.
“I was ready to go for it,” she said. “I sell real estate and that was great advertising.”
Youngblood said she didn’t find the transition to reality TV star that difficult because she mainly just had to be herself.
“The producers are just awesome,” she said. “They just did everything. I just show property and sell property.”
Skladany said that, right now, the show is slated only for the initial two half-hour episodes. If “Buying Naked” proves popular, more episodes could be in the offing.
