Utah Urban Legend: Beaver Creek Nudist Ranch

The following is an account of the infamous sign near Kamas of "Beaver Creek Nudist Ranch" by Enjoy Utah’s Michelle Powell. One of the biggest urban legends in Utah is that of a nudist ranch in Samak, just East of Kamas. We “stripped down” the information we had to find out if this “no clothes allowed” place really does exist. While driving to the Fairy Forest along the Mirror Lake Highway just East of Kamas, I told my kids to help me watch the road for deer, as I usually do along mountain roads, but this time I added on to watch for bear. “Bare” bums, that is. They found it odd that I would add that, until I explained to them about the “Nudist Ranch” in the area. They giggled and joked about watching for deer and “bares”, until I turned right onto Nudist Road, and stopped in front of the ...

Five reasons to sleep naked

It appears that sleeping naked is not only sexy, but is also beneficial for one’s health. Here are five surprising (and scientifically confirmed) ways sleeping in your birthday suit can benefit your health and well-being: BETTER QUALITY OF SLEEP An Australian study concluded that some forms of insomnia can be provoked by improper body temperature regulation at night. Another study showed that the regulation of in-bed body temperature could significantly help in reaching a deeper sleep. In one study in particular, Dutch scientists placed thermosuits on participants in order to lower their skin temperature without affecting core body temperature. As a result, the participants had an uninterrupted sleep and spent more time in the deep sleep stages. So if you are using heavy blankets or wearin...

Utah man arrested for sunbathing naked in view of church parking lot

A Farmington, Utah man was under the impression that he could sunbathe nude on his own property, even though he was in full view of his neighbors — one of which was his local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward house. From the Ogden Standard-Examiner: FARMINGTON — A man who claimed he could sunbathe in the nude in his own backyard appeared in court for his first hearing fully clothed. Myron Lee Kipp, 76, of Farmington, is charged with four counts of lewdness involving a child and three counts of lewdness, all misdemeanors. Kipp and his attorney, Bill Albright, appeared before Judge John Morris on Wednesday. Another hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12 before Judge David Connors. According to the probable cause statement filed in 2nd District Court on July 8, Farmington police were...

Nude beach-goers in China stage ‘suit half-down’ protest

People soaking up the sun on China's only nudist beach are flouting an order to cover up by wearing shorts — but only around their knees. The half mast protest came after sun worshipers flocked to the Dadonghai beach in Sanya, a resort town on the tropical island of Hainan, to find local government party officials have ordered bare-bottomed bathers off the white sands. The ban was part of a bid to create a "civilized social environment". A half mast protester in action The local council said they had been forced to act after being flooded with complaints, particularly from families, who said they could not go there with their children because of the large number of naked men. They said that the nude sunbathers were always men, adding that there was no problem with women stripping off their...

Japan’s Annual Penis Festival Is As Phallic As You’d Expect

Each spring, people flock to Kawasaki, Japan, to celebrate Kanamara Matsuri, aka the "Festival of the Steel Phallus." Held this year on April 6, the festival was a celebration of the penis and fertility. People parade gigantic phallic-shaped mikoshi (portable Shinto shrines) down the streets during the event, as revelers suck on penis lollipops, buy penis-themed memorabilia and pose with sculptures in the shape of — you guessed it — penises. According to the BBC, the festival is believed to have roots in the 17th century, when prostitutes are said to have prayed for protection from sexually transmitted infections at Kawasaki's Kanamara shrine. Today, the festival reportedly raises awareness about safe sex practices and fundraises for HIV prevention. Women and men dressed as women parade a ...

Naked in Wendover as security approaches

(No, that is not a picture of me, obviously, heheh.) So, this is one of my favorite stories to relay about the magazine's Wendover Weekends we've done in the past. The first year, we were at Montego Bay for most of our events. We did lube wrestling, a whipped cream bikini contest (which almost cost us replacing the carpet in the conference center) and a black-out dance party. It was the latter that caused my heart to thump. The black-out party was lit only by black lights. I was in my underwear in the back corner, furthest from the door, running music, as the DJ we had hired bailed on us. My setup was a laptop full of MP3s and a sound board on 2 folding tables creating a DJ booth. Most everyone was in their underwear, dancing to some new music I found out of Germany. About an hour into the...

First day of Spring

“When I cast off my clothes, I cast off my cares.” —Horace Walpole The first day of springtime doesn’t guarantee a spontaneous arrival of balmy temperatures, sunshine and blue skies. No seasonal transition delivers immediate change in prevailing weather conditions anywhere on our planet. Nature doesn’t operate on the principle of instant gratification. It does give us a psychological advantage: the bitter and frigid temperatures of winter are headed into oblivion. Gradually, we’ll experience a warming in the air and the rebirth of both flowers and foliage. A colorful resurrection of nature from the barren, dormant past three months. Personally, the first day of Spring brings a renewed surge of energy. It’s easier to get out of bed in the morning. Boring and repetitive daily routines lose s...

A Blueprint for Progress in Nudism

This is a post from a blogger called The Academic Naturist. I'm curious of your thoughts: We all wish society was more accepting of naturists.  We all wish there were more opportunities for nude recreation, without the occasional social and legal repercussions.  We all believe that the lifestyle is healthy and natural, and we wish others could understand that. Every naturist seems to have their own opinion of what the problems are and what needs to be done to advance our cause.  My opinion is quite straight-forward -- do what works.  And I look to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community as a good example of what works. LGBT vs. Nudist Statistics  There are a lot of parallels between being a nudist, and being gay.  (Or part of the LGBT group, more specifically.)  There is a...

Slack-lining naked in Utah — with a rope tied to his genitals

I'm sorry, but hell to the no. This man holds the world record for walking the longest length of slackline - like a tightrope, but not nearly so tight, 200 feet in the air without any kind of safety line. But last year, Andy Lewis and some friends did it in Moab with safety lines. Balancing 200 feet above the ground below, these slackliners took the expression of living dangerously even one step further — by tightrope walking naked. Oh, but he had to outdo them all and even take it another step. He strapped his safety line to his genitals. That, to me, would be an extra incentive not to slip and fall. The group was taking part in the Gobble Gobble Bitches Yeah Highline Festival in Moab, Utah. And here he is in a video naked, high above the canyon floor in a 2012 run in Yosemite, California...

TLC to air ‘Buying Naked’ – house-hunting in Pasco nudist areas

LAND O’ LAKES — Pasco County’s nudists are going national this week with a reality television show titled “Buying Naked,” which follows the exploits of real estate agent Jackie Youngblood, who specializes in selling homes in clothing-optional communities. The show debued on Nov. 20 on TLC, and viewers will see two back-to-back half-hour episodes as Youngblood helps couples find their dream homes and offers safety tips for avoiding the household hazards inherent with naked living. See a trailer here. Some clever camera work keeps the show from becoming too revealing, said Joey Skladany, a publicist for TLC. “No blurring at all,” he said. “Just great camera angles and (strategically placed) objects around the house.” A preview on the TLC.com website shows nudists riding a golf cart, using a ...
